The final major battle of Book I, where Malakar's army attacks the last Sanctuary.
Overview
After pursuing Silas across Sylvanholt, Malakar leads a full assault on Vallenglen — the last Sanctuary where the First Song still sings strongly.
The Battle
First Wave
- Noctimantic scouts test defenses
- Defenders hold the outer ring
Second Wave
- Lantern beasts (war-beasts) attack
- Silas uses Living Flame to create shockwave
- First victory for defenders
Third Wave
- Siege weapons (resonance cannons) deployed
- The Moonwell is destroyed
- Defenders pushed back
Final Confrontation
- Malakar faces Silas directly
- Silas defeats him physically
- Malakar's army surrounds the glade
The Shield
- Silas creates a flame shield — a dome of blue/golden flame
- Blocks the enemy army
- Allows defenders to escape
Aftermath
- Vallenglen falls to Malakar's forces
- The Elders sacrifice themselves to collapse the tunnels
- Silas and companions escape through the Hollow Root Path
- Malakar withdraws (possibly planning future attack)
Significance
This battle establishes Silas as a true leader and proves his Living Flame can defend as well as attack.
The fall of Vallenglen marks a turning point — the war is escalating, and Silas must find the Burrowed Crown.
