Noctimancy
Noctimancy is the corruption of the First Song — a twisted resonance that opposes the natural harmony of Sylvanholt.
Rather than harmonizing with the Song, Noctimancy twists its frequencies into destructive resonance. It typically manifests as cold, shadowed energy with fractured visual distortions.
Origins
Noctimancy was born when Noctis, an ancient Ratkyn who was once a master of the First Song, sought to claim the Burrowed Crown for himself. When the Song resisted him, he chose to corrupt rather than serve.
The Hollow Spire
Noctis took what remained of the Resonant Anvils — the Stag's sacred instruments of harmony — and corrupted them fully. He forced them to dominate rather than attune and heal.
The result was a tower born not of stone, but of distortion: The Hollow Spire.
It was built over the deepest wounded rootline of the First Oak — where the Oak once sang the loudest. Its presence chokes the Song, dulls it, twists it into something hollow and cold.
Artifact-Based Power
Unlike Ardenfire, which is expressed naturally through living beings, Noctimancy is most often channeled through artifacts infused with corrupted resonance.
These items are created using ancient relics known as Resonant Anvils.
The Night of Hollow Flames
The final dark chapter came when Noctis completed his work — the night when the Song all but vanished entirely. Known as The Night of Hollow Flames, this silence was so total that even the roots trembled. Fires fell on old strongholds.
The Great Root Severing
When Noctis followed the Song to the Vale where the Crown was hidden, the Song repelled him — not with wrath, but with pity. In retaliation, he shattered the Sanctuary of Veyhollow, severing its rootline. This became known as the Great Root Severing — the first and worst act of corruption.
Fighting Noctimancy
To fight Noctimancy, one must understand its roots. This is why Oren was cast out — his study of Noctimancy's origins was considered dangerous, but ultimately necessary.
